Share your data using Data streaming

Learn how sharing your data using Data streaming works and what you need to do to prepare

Data streaming is the recommended way to share your data, and the easiest. You authorize a live digital connection to your accounting software, and that's it. Your data is shared automatically from that point on, and you don't need to do anything else to always receive the most relevant offers and services.

Data streaming is faster and more secure than sending spreadsheets by email. Your login credentials aren't visible to anyone, all data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and you can disconnect at any time from within your accounting software settings.

Prepare to connect

Review these tips before starting your connection journey to help things run as smoothly as possible:

  1. Check that your accounting software is included in the Data streaming supported software list. If it's not listed, you may need to choose a different Connection option.

  2. The initial connection reads data from the last fiscal year. After that, we read only new or updated data, effortlessly keeping your information up to date.

  3. Before you begin, make sure you are logged into the correct company in your software. If your organization includes multiple entities, check that you are authorized to access their data.

  4. Some accounting software can be slower than others, especially during high-usage periods, such as payroll runs. We recommend choosing a quieter time of day to connect.

  5. To establish a digital connection, you must log in as a user with administrator access or equivalent permissions. Make sure you have the necessary access before you begin.

  6. For locally installed software, such as QuickBooks Desktop, multiple sessions may be required to establish a digital connection.

Connection process

In general, the connection flow takes you through the steps listed below. The exact steps differ for each supported accounting software. You can view detailed walkthroughs for your software by locating it in the navigation or in the Data streaming supported software list.

  2. Search for and select your accounting software from the list.
  3. Review the data you are being asked to share and confirm your consent.
  4. Your software opens in a new browser tab. Log in with administrator credentials and approve the data sharing request.
